Gridiron football, often simply referred to as gridiron, is an offshoot of the sport of football played primarily in the Comdantri Nortellus. In gridiron, there are far less rules regarding player safety and injury avoidance. Helmets, for instance, were optional until 1979, when two players, D'girda Mullen and Tracker Stine, both died on the field from massive head wounds. There are also no pass interference penalties, and no rules protecting quarterbacks, kickers and punters. Gridiron is considered a separate sport by many, especially in Comdantri where both forms are played, however at the international level the CCIF only sanctions standard football competitions. This includes at the Sidus Dei Ludos.

Gridiron Football is tied closely to Ch'bakanism, a widely accepted philosophy in Comdantri Nortellus, which states that mental power can overcome any physical obstacle, and the worthiness of an individual is their ability to withstand physical pain.
