The Iridium Coast Senate, also known as the Iridite Senate or simply the Senate in the Iridium Coast, is the upper house of the Iridium Coast legislature, the National Congress. The Senate was founded in 1823 with the dissolution of the nation's monarchy, as before the National Congress had been unicameral. From 1823 to 1955, when the Chancellor was the chief executive of the nation, the Senate was actually the lower house, having more members than the House of Representatives (which is now called the Karyune). However, with the dissolution of the Chancellorship in 1955, the Senate became restricted and much smaller, with the House of Representatives becoming the lower house and the Senate the upper house. The House of Representatives was renamed the Karyune with the 1995 Constitution, however both bodies retained their roles from before.
