The Minersville Miners are a professional Roofball team that plays in the Quentinian Roofball Organization. In that league, they play in the Eastern Roofball Conference, in the ERC Southwest along with the Mechanicsburg Businessmen and the Baltimore Lightning. They have won the QRO Champions Cup the most out of any team in the league, 8 times, once in 1970, 1976, 1977, 1980, 1984, 1985, 1998, and one in 2009. They play in the city of Minersville, at 467 Gulge Arena, the oldest QRO stadium in the league, and their current coach is Steve Miner, with their owner being Ryan Jameson.
History
The Miners, although not in one of the bigger cities, were one of the first four teams in the league, coming in in 1939 playing games even before the league was founded against the Jameisville Stingers and the Rodriguezville Rage (Today the Ravagers and Elves). When the league was founded, many of those teams chose to move to larger markets, however the Miners stayed in Minersville, leading to arguably the most rambunctious, loyal, and dedicated fan-base in the league. In the early years this loyalty was tested, however, as the Miners lost numerous games, and only made the tournament 3 times over the course of 18 seasons.
As the '70s began, however, the team started to get good, supported by their experience playing and their coaching staff, led by Reed Glenside, along with a terrific roster of players, including CT's Leo Goldeninny and Joe Morbiti. In 1970 they won the QRO Champions Cup for the first time, and continued their streak all through the '70s of winning. After a few years of getting in the Tournament, in 1976 and 1977 they won back to back Cups, and started to become the best team in the league. After acquiring Dianne Klothman at the Penetraman position in 1979, they won the Cup again the next year, 1980. During the '90s the Miners kept this streak and their dynasty going, even after losing Goldeninny to free agency. During this time they also developed perhaps one of the most fierce and most watched rivalries ever, against the BizTown Mailers. The two teams were extremely successful in this decade, but the Miners were able to dominate the rivalry in the '80s. They won two more Cups in 1984 and 1985, both against the Mailers, and although they lost one in 1982 to the Mailers, the Miners won the majority of the regular season games against the team.
At the start of the '90s the team slowed down a bit, as Morbiti and Klothman retired. They couldn't seem to dominate this decade like the last, as the Mailers came out on top in many of the regular season games as well as a Cup in 1994. The Miners finally got PM Alley Furman in 1996, which was the missing piece, and the Miners, along with their coach Reed Glenside, won another Cup in 1998. At the start of the 21st century an era ended for the Miners as Glenside decided to retire in 2002, and died 5 years later in 2007. The new coach, Ryan Hallei, attempted to modernize the team's strategy by using more Wide-Outs and less Tusslers, however the team took some time to adjust, having their first losing season since 1963. The team finally started clicking in 2008, and led by WO Greggy Sherchant they won the Cup the next year in 2009. Today the team is still one of the foremost in the league. This has been shown by their many Tournament appearances, however teams like the Verisitium Vipers and the David City Bureaucrats always seem to dominate those matchups.
