Murder in Savannah is a Quentinian mystery comedy television show that has been running on the Diamond Television Network since November of 2016. The show is currently number seven in the world in terms of viewership according to the National Association of Television, and is produced in the USQ by DTN, with Charles Dean-Bidge serving as its executive producer and creator. The show is based in the small fictional town of Savannah, located in an actual savanna in the Desert Area, with an extra -h in its name. The town is the center of many murders and plots attempting to disrupt the citizens of the town, with nearly all characters being the suspects of the murders. When no murders are happening in the town, the show follows the town's police as they attempt to solve crimes and patrol Savannah.

The main characters of the series include Caleb Crawfather, the head investigator on the police staff, and Deborah Tant, the love interest of Crawfather and his assistant on the force. Besides the two main investigators, the series has a wide range of characters who are citizens in the town, and often suspects in the many murder cases. Two recurring characters, however, include Madame Voodoo who provides spiritual assistance to the investigators, and Nellie Ginger, who attempts to gain Crawfather's interest and often disrupts cases. The show has been praised by many for its terrific mix of comedy within the mystery of the series, and its use of strange characters to move the plot forward. The show's fourth season concluded on July 3rd, 2020, and it has been renewed for a fifth season by DTN, scheduled to begin November 3rd. The first four seasons each included 20 episodes.

The show's cast includes Stephen Kal-El as Caleb Crawfather, Pam Christine as Deborah Tant, Angela McKinley as Madame Voodoo, and Erin Kemps as Nellie Ginger. Kal-El's performance especially has been noted by critics as being extremely comedic.

Premise

The premise of the show consists of a small town called Savannah, where the town's police force is kept busy by the numerous crimes and murder cases which occur in the town every few weeks. The town's police force is led by head investigator Caleb Crawfather, who attempts to protect the town and solve crimes and murders, although his humor and odd attitude towards the job make him unpopular with many. Deborah Tant assists Crawfather as assistant detective, and secretly has a crush on the investigator, which is not revealed to Crawfather until Season 3. During investigation, the duo heads to many places in the town, including the town square, which is where the two always meet to start an episode. The two main recurring characters are Madame Voodoo and Nellie Ginger. Voodoo is a self-proclaimed mystic witch who often adds comedy to the series, and who often offers assistance to the investigative duo, although they rarely ask for it. Voodoo is often one of the suspects in crimes, and has an infamous cellar full of dead mice. Nellie Ginger works as a high-level politician in the city, and also has a romantic interest in Crawfather, although Crawfather is rarely interested in Ginger. This creates a tension and rivalry between Ginger and Deborah Tant, although Ginger often does not notice or acknowledge the rivalry.

Main Characters:

  • Caleb Crawfather is the head investigator in the town, and attempts to solve murders and protect the town's citizens from crime. He has an odd character and humor, which offend some people, however his expertise and smarts makes him adept at solving crimes. Crawfather is played by Stephen Kal-El.
  • Deborah Tant is the assistant investigator on the police force, assisting Crawfather in solving crimes and patrolling the streets with him daily. Tant has a romantic interest in Crawfather, which is known to the audience but kept secret from Crawfather himself until season three. Tant has a rivalry with Nellie Ginger, however Ginger does not often acknowledge the rivalry, leaving Tant even more frustrated. Tant is portrayed by Pam Christine.
  • Madame Voodoo is a self-proclaimed mystic witch who lives on the far side of town, in a dark forest. In the dark forest, however, is a large mansion with many fountains and a pool, leading to much humor and speculation over how Voodoo attained the wealth to buy the magnificent house, or if she took it by force. Voodoo often attempts to assist the investigative duo, however is rarely asked to help. She is portrayed by Angela McKinley.
  • Nellie Ginger is a high ranking politician in the town, and has a high influence in what goes on in the town.
