The Treaty of Bedlam, officially the Treaty of Peace Between the Asperian Trade and Defense Organization and Paladinia, with Her Allies Assembled, was a treaty of peace signed between the Asperian Trade and Defense Organization and Paladinia along with its allies, which brought an end to the Asperian Roofball Conflict after nearly 5 months of conflict. Though ceasefires were collectively called for on November 15th, 2019, it took a month of negotiations to finalize and sign the treaty, on December 6th. Even then numerous countries involved in the war had not signed, and it took until December 16th for all nations involved to sign the treaty.
The Congress of the United States of Quentin ratified the treaty on January 1st. Other nations ratified the treaty at later dates, and other countries like the MTO, Mortification, and Paladinia did not have to ratify the treaty, meaning it entered immediately into their national law after it was signed. The terms of the treaty were complicated, mainly because of the alliances each side had, but the main portion of the deal was based around the high bawhacka trade tariffs the USQ would receive on bawhacka moving through the USQ and regions of the Brightwater Gulf to Paladinia, as well as territorial changes on the Zwakazi continent and trade restrictions and other taxes around the world.
The signing of the treaty took place in Tandem, Republic of Megatridimensional Order, in the state of North Bedlam for which the treaty is named. The conference to create the treaty was held in Dwayne Tower, and though treaty negotiations were held from the ceasefire date, all nations involved were not actually present at the conference building until November 26th.
Background
The Treaty of Bedlam came at the end of the Asperian Roofball Conference, which was started because of an incident at the 2019 VERA World Cup Semifinal between the Allian National Roofball Team and the Paladinian National Roofball Team, however the incident was mainly started as a result of tension and conflict between referee Lewis Mayenvum and his staff and the Paladinian team, not so much between the two teams competing. The conflict began when several calls went against Paladinia, and the Paladinian team became angered. The situation escalated, and eventually the officiating crew decided Paladinia should forfeit the game, calling in security to enforce the ruling.
This sparked negative reactions from all over the world, including the Republic of Megatridimensional Order government, the government of Paladinia, and the government of the Nista Federation of States, and the Quentinian National Roofball Team, among others.
