The Maximum City Pitch Black is a professional Roofball team that plays in The Quentinian Roofball Organization, in Maximum City. Founded in 1950, they are a part of The Eastern Roofball Conference, and The ERC Northwest division, with The Boston Privateers and The West Snowy Grinders. They have won 5 QRO Champions Cups, one in 1950, 1966, 2002, 2015, and 2016. Currently their head coach is Ethan Looers, and their owner is Gary Bowerse.

History

The Pitch Black were founded in the QRO in 1950 by their first owner and pioneer of the sport Erin Lebus. She revolutionized the game by spreading it out, using the whole length of the blacktop, which was an alternative to the physical, middle of the blacktop play that had been popular up to that point. Due to this style of play that left defenses shocked and defenseless, they won The QRO Champions Cup in only their first year. They seemed almost unstoppable, and in 1951 they were in the Conference Title game. In the 10th dime they seemed poised to win and get to the Cup, however in the final seconds Drew Kearse dropped a ball that would've put them up by 50, and in the final drive of the game The Mechanicsburg Businessmen hit on a 40 point top-roof play, which gave them the win 370-360.

In the years following their first Cup win the team was good still, but others started catching up, adopting the spread style offense that had worked to the Pitch Black's success in the previous years, and in 1959 they missed out on getting to the Conference Title game for the first time ever. In the mid '60s, however, they were back at it again, with another high powered offense, led by arguably the best Wide-out ever, Thomas Anthony-Barber. In 1966 they did it again, winning the Champions Cup. After their 2nd win, in the early '70s they still were good, however they were dealt a huge loss when Erin Lebus passed away, in 1973. After that the Pitch Black couldn't seem to win, partially due to the passing of the beloved Lebus, but mainly because of The Minersville Miners team of the era being dominant, and defeating the Pitch Black among other teams seemingly every season in the Tournament. In the '90s, the Pitch Black reached their all time low, not making the Tournament for 3 years straight.

At the dawn of the 21st century, things still looked grim for Maximum City. In 2001 the team turned it around with 3 first round draft picks, SM Ryan Hullock, CT Felicity Vebas, and Wide-out Millard Liberty. Just the next year they won their 3rd Cup led by those three players, and Maximum City rejoiced. The Pitch Black won twice, back to back in 2015 and '16, with an aging Millard Liberty and a plethora of defensive stars. Today the Pitch Black are still a good team, with Millard Liberty still going strong, and a bad division has led them to be a contender in the Tournament almost every year. They are also known today for their 7 times a year Black Out games, where all the fans in attendance at Lebus Stadium in Maximum City wear black, and the lights are dimmed. Since 1993, they have won an astonishing 167 of those 175 black out games. Shadow the Lurker, the team's beloved mascot, also is nationally known for it's antics and crowd-hyping techniques.
