The Mechanicsburg Businessmen are a professional Roofball team that plays in the Quentinian Roofball Organization (QRO). They have won the QRO Champions Cup 4 times, once in 1951, once in 1964, once in 1973, and once in 2004. They play in the city Mechanicsburg, are a part of the Eastern Roofball Conference, and play in the ERC Southwest alongside the Baltimore Lightning and the Minersville Miners. Their head coach is Jimmy DeTurner, and the team is owned by Mackenzie Grerlickad.

History

The team was one of the original teams founded in 1939, and was first owned by Jame Grerlickad, a local businessman, which is where the team got its name. In the early years of the league, the team was not very good, finishing last in the league 9 years in a row. However, in 1950 they gained many good players, and started to get good. In 1951, they won their first Champions Cup, and the team became one of the top contending teams the years after. In 1964, they gained another Champions Cup, with an excellent defense, headed by excellent Wide-Out Case Jerrich, who was eventually voted to the QRO Hall of Champions. After that year, the team was always a contender, however was not able to repeat their success by winning the Cup.

The 1970s were a popular decade for the Businessmen. During the decade, they were extremely popular, most of the popularity coming from their stout defense, headed this time by Wide-Out Sherry Shobin and Penetraman Jackxs Fullenstev, and their rivalry with the Minersville Miners. During this period, the Miners largely got the best of the Businessmen, winning 5 Champions Cups in that 10 year period, and the Businessmen winning only 1, in 1973. However, the rivalry between the two was extremely entertaining, and every time they played, especially in the tournament, the game got a huge amount of views, and the games were always close and entertaining, along with being rough and physical.

After the '70s, the Businessmen in the 1980's and '90s were not as good as the '70s and before. They finished bottom of the league twice, in 1984 and 1997, and made the Tournament only 6 times. After this bleak period for the team, in which attendance was low, in the early 2000s things started looking up for the team, when they drafted Starterman Kenny Olchsont #1 overall in 2001. After 3 consecutive years in the Tournament, in 2004 they won their 4th Champions Cup. In the years since, they have been in the Tournament, and even after Olchsont retired in 2014, they have had 4 good years until now.
