Rathaleo, also commonly referred to as Old Rathaleo, is the capital city and most populous city in Telembria, with a population of 5.46 million in its urban area. Located in Boon County along the Crudumpascor River, Rathaleo is one of the nation's oldest cities, and the site of numerous famous events from the 16th through 18th centuries, including the 1700 World's Fair and the Megatridimensional Revolt, and is the home of numerous historical sites recognized by the Venturian Union, including the Newshire City Dome and the Rathaleo Boathouse and Library of the Sciences.
The city's name derives from old English, with "rath-" meaning place, and "-leo" meaning of the gods. The city was originally a small village settled on the edge of the Crudumpascor River, however it gained large regional control throughout the 15th century, and soon was the largest town in the union of townships and provinces which was Telembria at the time. By the time the Telembrian Constitution was signed in 1649, the city had become by far the largest, and the home of the President-King, leading it to be set in stone as the capital in the document. Throughout the 17th and 18th centuries, the city continued to be a leader in world culture and population, along with the cities of Procantinac, Gardenia, and Orasnotrus as the premiere cities of the world. However, the prestige of the city declined with the Megatridimensional Revolt in the late 1700's, and soon the nation fell into economic decline. By the 20th century, the country was one of the poorest in the world, though the population of Rathaleo continued to boom. In the late 1900's, the country made a recovery, and Rathaleo was at the forefront of numerous infrastructural and scientific advancements. Today the city is among the top 50 most populous in the world.
Rathaleo is essential to the economy of Telembria, and most of the nation's top companies are headquartered there, including the NewOld Corporation, Tarjekx Supplies, and Peter St. Shipping. The city is home to the largest river port in the world, Rathaleo Port, and has one of the largest industrial sectors in the world, though much is outdated. The city's top attractions include, among others, the Newshire City Dome, the Rathaleo Boathouse and Library of the Sciences, the Peter Street Chapel, the Telembrian Capitol Building on Monarch's Hill, and the Sticks Library Monument. The city was ranked 5th six times on the Quentinian Best Awards' award for best city, from 1990-1994, and then again in 2002 and 2009. The city hosts the Rathaleo World's Faire every 16 years, which draws large amounts of visitors, and has also hosted the 1934 Summer Sidus Dei Ludos.
