The Nefarious Nine is a fictional group of supervillains appearing in superhero groups published by QUACK! Comics. The group, made up of nine of the most notorious and powerful QUACK! Comics supervillains, aims to defeat the superheroes protecting the world from villains, mainly the members of the Knights of Life force. The group is the most popular villain group in the QUACK! Comics universe, with villain members including Rozelyn D'Amilio, Doctor Storm, Slapjack, Deadly Hankerchief, Madame Weber, Haythamator, Lord Bastion, Doctor Fury, and the Grey Blacksmith. Additionally, the Codifier often secretly assists the group, and other villains assist in the group's undertakings from time to time, though the core nine members remain the same. The leading members of the organization are recognized as Doctor Fury, Haythamator, and and Madame Weber.

The Nine were first introduced in the 1981 comic series Nefarious Nine, and were introduced as a loosely organized group of supervillains who secretly collaborated to fix prices and wreak mayhem. After being infiltrated and broken up by Toxic Bureaucrat, Shadow Dagger, Tennomore Titan, and Bismark Legion, the Nefarious Nine was separated until the 1989 series Nefarious Nightmares, in which the group's escapades and influence on superhero history was explored in a past tense view. After the popularity of the series, QUACK! published Wars of the Nine and Scattered Wars, in which the Nine directly battled against the Knights of Life, and subsequently engaged in an internal villain civil war. Finally, the alternate universe Nefarious Victory series explored the possibility of a Nefarious Nine victory, and the chaos that might ensue.

The group continues to be mentioned irregularly in stories today, and QUACK! Studios has announced plans to incorporate the group into the company's cinematic universe.

Sects

There are three main sects in the Nefarious Nine identified by the Tennomore Titan, who conducted reconnaissance on the group during the Wars of the Nine series. These sects are not organized, but are main divisions in the group which arise while planning and conducting business, and are important in both the fictional world during the civil war, and in publication as a formula for authors.

The first of these sects is the world-domination sect, which includes Doctor Fury and Lord Bastion. The main goal of this sect is to dominate the world through defeat of the superheroes, then control of the world's economy and governments through a mass display of force. Secondly is the higher-purpose sect, which includes Haythamator, Doctor Storm, and Slapjack. The common goal of this sect is to achieve a higher purpose than world domination through force, and the mere riches that come with it. For example, Haythamator desires a defeat of the superheroes, which would then be followed by a stealthy takeover of the world by his group, the Templars of Haytham. This would then transform the world ideologically, and in his mind bring peace to the world. Doctor Storm tags along with this ideology, while Slapjack desires a freer and more anarchist world. The third and final sect is the hero-oriented sect, which includes Madame Weber, Deadly Hankerchief, and sometimes Rozelyn D'Amilio. This sect focuses mainly on defeating the heroes, and then returning to life as normal, with the world remaining the same.

On the outside of these three main sects is Grey Blacksmith, who is independent and only really desires to defeat Celticsio and avenge personal issues, including the death of his daughter. The Blacksmith often sides with one group or another when making decisions, and does not usually speak up. The Codifier is also not involved in any particular sect, as he only assists the group secretly and not very often.

Aims

The group's aims after defeating the heroes are ambiguous, with both the canon series Scattered Wars and non-canon series Nefarious Victory exploring the divisions and ambiguity within the group and its purpose.
